ABOUT THE EVENT
With the Philippines facing around 20 typhoons annually, affecting over five million Filipinos, the urgency for cities to become more flood-resilient has never been greater. The fifth Liveable Cities Lab, held on September 11, 2024, responded to this pressing challenge with a focus on "Designing Flood-Resilient Cities."
The Lab brought together experts from various sectors to share their insights and solutions for building more resilient urban environments. Representing the government sector, CDO DRRM Department Manager Mr. Nick Jabagat provided key strategies from local disaster risk management. From the private sector, Globe Telecom's Carlo Pagulayan and Coca-Cola Philippines' Ivanna Aguiling-Dela Torre offered corporate perspectives on sustainability and infrastructure resilience. The academe's voice was represented by Dr. Maria Carinnes Alejandria, who provided a research-based approach to disaster preparedness and flood mitigation.
The discussion emphasized the importance of tripartite collaboration between the government, private sector, and academia in developing sustainable and efficient solutions to one of the country's most severe natural disasters.
